Heavy legs by 3 p.m. isn’t just getting older.

Aching, swelling and bulging veins are often a sign of venous insufficiency — valves that no longer push blood back to your heart. We find the vein that’s failing with ultrasound, then close it in a short, in-office procedure.

Even one or two of these, happening regularly, is worth a quick ultrasound.
02 — Why it happens

Tiny one-way valves. One gives out.

Leg veins work against gravity. Small valves open to let blood rise and snap shut so it can’t fall back. When they weaken, blood slips backward and pools — that pressure is what you feel as heaviness, swelling and ache, and what you see as bulging veins.

Blood slips back and pools.
A valve that can’t close lets blood fall back down with every step. Pressure builds in the lower leg, stretching the vein wall — which is how varicose veins form. Ablation closes this vein so blood takes a healthier route.

03 — What to expect

From first scan to walking out.

Vein ablation uses gentle heat through a thin catheter to seal the faulty vein from the inside. Healthy veins nearby take over the work.

The area is numbed with local anesthetic, so most patients feel pressure rather than pain. Some tenderness or bruising along the treated vein for a few days afterward is normal.
When vein disease is causing symptoms like pain, swelling or skin changes, treatment is often considered medically necessary and covered by many plans. We verify your coverage before your procedure.
Most people walk out the same day and return to work and everyday activities within a day or two. We’ll give you specific guidance on exercise and compression.
In most cases, no. You can book directly with either of our offices.
Not always. Spider veins can be cosmetic, but they can also point to a deeper vein that isn’t working. The ultrasound tells us which, so you only treat what matters.
