Achilles Tendonitis

Trust our team of podiatry professionals to deliver expert foot and ankle care with every step. If you’re suffering from pain and loss of function in your ankles or feet or note tenderness and swelling at the back of your heels, there’s a good chance you’re having problems with your Achilles tendon. It’s the largest tendon in the body and coordinates the movements of your lower legs and feet. When you’re frustrated with loss of function and you can’t afford to get sidelined by Achilles tendonitis, you need a podiatrist who can address your pain and limited range of motion correctly the first time. At Dynamic Medical Centers, our goal is to resolve your pain and loss of function with the least invasive yet effective treatment methods. Please contact our offices today for a personalized consultation.

How Achilles Tendonitis Affects Every Aspect Of Your Life

We don’t realize how hard our ankles and feet work until something goes wrong. Achilles tendonitis is an “overuse” condition affecting the large tendon that connects your foot with your knee, running from the back of the heel to the calf. Although the Achilles tendon can withstand a force of up to 1,000 pounds, it’s also the tendon most frequently ruptured. These are usually caused by overuse, poor stretching, or other athletic activities, but you can develop problems with the tendon from your daily activities, especially if you have an active job that keeps you on your feet a lot.

Although we recommended a professional evaluation to determine the exact nature of the problems with your Achilles tendon, if you experience one or more of these symptoms, we need to get you in for a check-up:

  • Swelling at the back of the heel or along the Achilles tendon
  • Detectable bone spurs at the back of the heel or base of the tendon (may indicate insertional tendonitis)
  • Heel pain when you stretch your calf
  • Inability to pint your toes or other limited range of motion

We begin with a physical exam to ascertain your range of motion, abilities, and pain levels. After this exam, we often recommend in-depth exams like X-rays, an ultrasound, or an MRI.

Once we’ve ascertained the nature of the Achilles tendon issue, we’ll create a custom care plan, starting with the least-invasive therapies (like rest, ice, and elevation) before moving on to more invasive procedures like surgery.

I cannot say enough good things about this practice. This was my first time coming and I had some issues going on with my toe. It was so sore that couldn’t even touch it and how I dreaded going in because the pain was so severe. When I arrived you can feel positive vibes there. From the girls up front desk to the nurse in the back. I had awesome nurse and when I met Dr. Rafii he was awesome. He took the time to listen about the trauma in the past that was done to that right foot and the 2 surgeries that I had on the right ankle. He knew right away what was going on and when in clipped everything and pain free. I got so much relief. I just want to thank the wonderful staff there for you loving care. You guys are the best.
