Sesamoiditis

Early Treatment For Sesamoiditis Means Feeling Better Sooner

At the Dynamic Medical Centers, we are a podiatrist team that is known for their quality care and compassion. Sesamoiditis develops when the small sesamoid bones and ball of the foot tendons underneath the big toe joint get inflamed, causing tenderness, pain, and trouble bending the toe itself. If you have symptoms of the foot and wonder if you have Sesamoiditis, we advise contacting our clinic now for diagnostics and a treatment. We can perform an examination of the area and create a care plan to get you feeling better very soon.

Sesamoiditis

Those who partake in a high level of physical activity are more likely to develop sesamoiditis. High-impact activities and sports, such as running and dancing, can be another risk factor for this condition. Other contributing factors could be flatter feet or high arches that apply stress on the sesamoids, wearing thinly soled or high heeled shoes, having gout, or a sudden increase in activity level. We understand that this condition can greatly hinder your everyday living and doing the hobbies you enjoy. After an examination, we may suggest RICE therapy, modifying your activity, using supporting gear, taking over-the-counter medications, or physical therapy. But in severe cases, other treatment approaches may be recommended.

Sesamoids are two small, pea-shaped bones that connect muscles and other bones through tendons that envelop them. Sesamoids allow the big toe to move normally and absorb when weight is placed onto the ball. The main symptom for this condition is a gradual onset that builds in pain under the big toe and ball of foot. Other symptoms could be difficulty bending or straightening your big toe, pain when moving the toe that may cause limping, pain in the foot when bearing weight, or a popping sensation in the big toe when walking. If this condition does not receive care, it can cause more serious complications including chronic and prolonged pain, deformity and weakness of the big toe, or a fracture of the sesamoid bones in the foot. If you suspect that you may have sesamoiditis or another foot condition, we suggest contacting our clinic at your next available moment.

I cannot say enough good things about this practice. This was my first time coming and I had some issues going on with my toe. It was so sore that couldn’t even touch it and how I dreaded going in because the pain was so severe. When I arrived you can feel positive vibes there. From the girls up front desk to the nurse in the back. I had awesome nurse and when I met Dr. Rafii he was awesome. He took the time to listen about the trauma in the past that was done to that right foot and the 2 surgeries that I had on the right ankle. He knew right away what was going on and when in clipped everything and pain free. I got so much relief. I just want to thank the wonderful staff there for you loving care. You guys are the best.
