Corns

Corns are small, circular calluses that form on the feet or between the toes, predominantly in weight-bearing areas. They act as thickened skin, typically triggered by repeated pressure or friction. Corns often aren’t too serious, but when left untreated, they can grow into hardened patches that are both unsightly and painful. Our Dynamic Medical Centers can help take care of them and prevent future corns when you call us to schedule a consultation!

Corns

Like calluses, corns develop when skin cells multiply in response to repeated pressure or friction. Besides size, the main difference between corns and calluses is that corns are more prone to causing harm. While calluses can be painful over time, they tend to be harmless in most cases. By contrast, many patients report feeling pain when corns develop. One reason for this pain is due to corns forming on and around the toes, often on bony prominences. Some common causes of corns are:

  • Improper footwear: You want to wear shoes that fit properly and aren’t too tight. Ill-fitting shoes can trigger constant pressure and friction on your skin, eventually leading to corns. You may also want to be careful about wearing high heels too much, as they can also lead to corns.
  • How you walk: When walking, it’s important to have an even distribution of your feet. An abnormal gait can put pressure on different areas, eventually causing corns in some cases.
  • Foot deformities: Certain foot deformities or conditions, like bunions or hammertoes, can also lead to corns due to abnormal pressure distribution. Our team can help treat these conditions.

Besides corns being painful when you walk, patients often may experience inflammation with their corns being inflamed and tender when touched.

I cannot say enough good things about this practice. This was my first time coming and I had some issues going on with my toe. It was so sore that couldn’t even touch it and how I dreaded going in because the pain was so severe. When I arrived you can feel positive vibes there. From the girls up front desk to the nurse in the back. I had awesome nurse and when I met Dr. Rafii he was awesome. He took the time to listen about the trauma in the past that was done to that right foot and the 2 surgeries that I had on the right ankle. He knew right away what was going on and when in clipped everything and pain free. I got so much relief. I just want to thank the wonderful staff there for you loving care. You guys are the best.

Treatment Is Available And Why Experience Matters

Patients may feel embarrassed having corns, but the condition can happen to anyone. Our team works hard to help treat and prevent corns and similar conditions.

  • We offer personalized treatment options that are designed specifically with you in mind. Your treatment might be as simple as needing some shoe modifications or some orthotics to help redistribute pressure. We can also offer procedures like debridement, where we remove dead skin cells to smooth out the corns.
  • Our foot and ankle surgeon, Dr. Rafii, has extensive experience treating complex foot injuries and conditions. Surgery typically isn’t needed for corns, but Dr. Rafii can perform a non-invasive surgery should you need it.
  • Our team includes several virtual assistants. We understand that going in person for a condition like corns can be embarrassing. While in-person treatment options might be needed, many patients simply need guidance from afar. We can incorporate virtual appointments into your regular in-person schedule as well.
